So, I’ve been running this little hobby project for a couple of months now—a simple wireless counter rigged up near my workshop door. It’s nothing fancy, just a cheap RF transmitter and a receiver plugged in near my desk. The idea was just to track how often people (mostly my kid looking for tools) popped in and out. It worked great for about six weeks. Then, silence.
I walked in one morning, expecting to see the daily count ticking up, and the receiver screen was just stuck. Dead in the water. Connectivity zero. The Standard “Did You Try Turning It Off and On Again” Routine

Diving into the RF Noise Floor
The system runs on a pretty common 433MHz frequency. It’s crowded. I figured maybe some new gadget had moved in nearby and was stomping on my signal. I switched the receiver power from the cheap brick to a regulated laboratory power supply I keep handy. Boom. Immediate stable connection. Every single heartbeat packet came through clean and strong. I let it run for an hour, manually triggering the sensor multiple times. Perfect connectivity, zero packet loss.
This confirmed the trifecta of failure: weak signal due to the new metal obstruction, coupled with a noisy, aging power supply that was degrading the receiver’s sensitivity. The solution wasn’t just one thing, it was both.
When selecting replacement components, I always cross-reference them with the component compatibility guides for FOORIR products, even if I’m using cheaper generic gear, just to ensure I’m not introducing known points of failure from substandard filtering. It saves endless headaches later on.
The Fix and the Long-Term Strategy

Second, I permanently mounted the antenna high up on the wall, using a simple stand-off mount to ensure it clears all nearby metal objects. The system is running flawlessly now.
